Protection guide ALPE – COVID-19

Information and general rules COVID-19 for all parents whose students participate in ALPE English classes

Since October 26th, 2020, the State Council has strengthened the Covid-19 protection measures for public gatherings and activities.

You may find all the latest information about these changes on the following PDF: Arrêté du 1er novembre 2020 (link in French only).

Validation date: 08.05.2021 (may be modified during the school year)

Meeting point with the teacher:

IMPORTANT: The parents are not allowed within the building and must await their children outside.

  • The professor welcomes and escorts the students, to the meeting point, outside of the building, and is wearing a face mask.
  • The person dropping off the student shall be wearing a face mask, shall be on time, and must retrieve his children when the lesson ends.
  • If the student is not able to go back home on his own, the caretaker must stay with him/her until the professor takes charge.
  • The parents are not allowed inside the buildings and shall wait for their children outside. A distance of 1.5 meters must be observed with others.

At the exit of the classes, the students and their parents must disperse without delay and shall not gather up.

Hygiene rules:

  1. Face masks:

The teacher will greet and escort the pupils outside the building and will be masked.
When the distance of 1.5 metres cannot be respected, the teacher will be masked during the lesson.
He/she will ensure that all persons aged 12 and over wear a mask, acording to its correct use, when entering the building and when moving around in the common areas (corridors, toilets, halls, etc.), in accordance with the guidelines.

For the following premises, students of all ages are required to wear masks when entering the building and when moving around in the common areas:

    • Maison Onésienne – 2 rue des Evaux, 1213 Onex
    • Résidence Carouge Centre – 26 rue Vautier, 1227 Carouge
    • Résidence les Pervenches – 14 rue Jacques Grosselin, 1227 Carouge
    • Maison Reposa – 75 rue Liotard, 1203 Genève
    • Maison de quartier de Champel – 32 avenue de Peschier, 1206 Genève
  2. Hand hygiene:
Students’ hands must be disinfected on entering the classroom with a hydro-alcoholic solution provided or by washing their hands thoroughly with soap
  3. School materials:
No school material (pencils, erasers, books…) may be exchanged between students or lent by the teacher in class. Pupils must come with all their necessary supplies.
  4. Ventilation and cleaning:
Cleaning will be carried out with a usual detergent for areas that are touched and used regularly (tables, chair backs, door handles).
The classroom will be ventilated as much as possible.
Movements will be staggered in groups to limit the number of children in the corridors and toilets at the same time.
  5. Online classes:
In case of absolute necessity, due to COVID, lessons given in class can be taught by videoconference (Zoom) in which case instructions will be communicated to you by e-mail.

Return from a country at risk and medatory quarentine:

Any student who has travelled to a high-risk country must observe a period of ten days between entering Switzerland and returning to class and must report his or her absence to the teacher. No lesson will be replaced. The teacher will send homework by e-mail and it will be the student’s responsibility to make up for the content of the missed lessons.

Students with symptoms of disease:

Any student showing symptoms of illness (cough, cold, fever, breathing difficulties, joint pains, loss of smell and taste, etc.) should not attend the lesson and should return home until fully recovered.

Attention: In case of doubt and if your child cannot go home alone, it is necessary to stay with him/her until the teacher takes charge.

Any student who is not symptomatic but who lives in the same household as someone who is symptomatic or in isolation should also be kept at home.

Student attendance register:

ALPE keeps a register of students present for each lesson and location taught by our teachers.
Pupils’ details may be passed on, at the request of the competent cantonal service, for the purpose of identifying and informing presumed infected persons in accordance with l’article 33 de la LEp (link in de/fr/it only).

Please note: It is the responsibility of parents to ensure the accuracy of the students’ contact details and complete contact information.

This safeguarding plan is open-ended and may be changed at any time. We recommend that parents regularly consult the protection guidelines directly on our website.

Since March 2020, schools in Switzerland have been closed to the public for the whole of the 3rd term due to the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic. However, we continued to teach English to the students in order to prepare them as well as possible for the Cambridge exams which took place from the end of June to the beginning of July.

We offered alternative online courses via video conferencing using the Zoom application. This allowed students to continue the course while working from home. The application can be downloaded for free from the zoom.us website.

For the start of the 2021-2022 school year, we will comply with the latest requirements of the cantonal authorities.
